Wholly Living

We are Overcomers

1 John 5:1-5 (NLT): “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his command-ments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.”

Every Child of God Overcomes Evil and We Have the Victory Through Faith. Billy Graham said, “During Jesus’ time here on earth, He was God in the flesh, true God and true man. He is from eternity to eternity. Jesus Christ, by His death and resurrection, became the Gospel. As His ambassadors we must represent Him in all his fullness totally and truthfully. Anything less disqualifies us from our high and holy calling.”

WE ARE OVERCOMERS! 1 John 5:4 (NLT): “For every child of God defeats (Overcomes) this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.”  An Overcomer: Is a person who prevails in spite of opposition, difficulties or weakness. It’s also a person who defeats something causing conflict or struggle. Psalm 119:133 (NLT): “Guide my steps by your word, so I will not overcome by evil.”  True Worshippers—John 4:23 (NLT): “But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.”  The Spirit and The Truth.

3 Areas We Must Overcome: Unbelief, Romans 11:22-23 (NLT): “Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off. And if the people of Israel turn from their unbelief, they will be grafted in again, for God has the power to graft them back into the tree.” Cuts us off, disconnects.  Flesh, Galatians 5:16-18 (NASB1995): “Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off. And if the people of Israel turn from their unbelief, they will be grafted in again, for God has the power to graft them back into the tree.”  Contrary to the Spirit, Disqualifies. Hurts, Matthew 6:5 (NLT): “When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.“ Unforgiveness—Destroys

WE HAVE OVERWHELMING VICTORY! 1 John 5:4 (NLT): “For every child of God defeats (Overcomes) this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.” Victory Isn’t Something We Fight For—It’s Something We Fight From–Even When All Hell Is Breaking Loose! Romans 8:37 (NLT): “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”  We Have Victory Over The Battles We Haven’t Even Faced Yet. 1 John 4:4 (NLT): “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.“

WE ARE ACTIVATED BY FAITH. What Is Faith? Hebrews 11:1-2 (NKJV): “ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.” Hebrews 11:6 (NLT): “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.“ Romans 3:22 (NLT): “ We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.”

A LIFE WITHOUT CHRIST IS NO LIFE AT ALL. 1 John 5:11-12 (NLT): “And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.”
