What Do You Need To Know?

Matthew 13:10-17 (NKJV): And the disciples came and said to Him, ‘Why do You speak to them in parables?’ 11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:

‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; 15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’ But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”

Proverbs 4:1-9 (NKJV): “Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law. 3 When I was my father’s son,
Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, He also taught me, and said to me:
‘Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. 5 Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her. 9 She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you.’”

Three Distinct Facets of God and Who He Is:

Omniscient–“All Knowing”

Omnipotent–”All Powerful”

Omnipresent–”All Around”

Tony Evans writes that these three attributes always work in tandem: God knows what needs to be done—that’s Omniscience. He has the power to do it—that’s omnipotence. He’s always wherever He needs to be to do whatever needs to be done—that’s omnipresence.

Psalm 147:5 (NIV): “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.”  There is nothing that you’re going through that God does not know and understand. There is nothing that is happening to you that His Power cannot undo. There is never a Moment in our lives where He is Not Present and Willing to Help.

Our God Has No Limit of Understanding

Psalm 139:1-4 (NASB1995): “O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. 3 You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all.”

David is Saying in this text that not only does he know Him, he understands Him. God knows everything and everyone And everything everyone has ever done. Hebrews 4:13 (NASB1995): “No creature is hidden from His sight, but ALL THINGS are open and laid before the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.”

The word “Searched” isn’t just like a pad down at the airport–(hagar). This is an “Internal Affairs” Full Scale Investigation. Everything Gets Turned Up Side Down.

3 Areas of This “All Knowing” We Can Benefit From:

PAST– Psalm 139:1 (NASB1995): “O Lord, you have searched me and known me.”

PRESENT—Psalm 139:2-3 (NASB1995): “You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. 3 You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.”

FUTURE—1 Corinthians 2:9 (NASB): “…but just as it is written: ‘THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.’”

In Closing, Psalm 119:169-176 (NASB1995): “Let my cry come before You, O Lord; Give me understanding according to Your word. Let my supplication come before You; Deliver me according to Your [b]word. 171 Let my lips utter praise, For You teach me Your statutes. Let my tongue sing of Your [c]word, For all Your commandments are righteousness. 173 Let Your hand be [d]ready to help me, For I have chosen Your precepts. I long for Your salvation, O Lord, And Your law is my delight. 175 Let my soul live that it may praise You, And let Your ordinances help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant, For I do not forget Your commandments.
