Never To Fall

2 Peter 1:1-2 (NIV): Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” Who Wrote the Book —-> The Apostle Peter Who Was: The fisherman who left everything to follow Jesus; the disciple who saw Jesus transfigured on top of a mountain; the disciple who, at the command of Jesus walked on water; the disciple who swore to go to his death alongside Jesus; the disciple who Jesus gave the keys to the Kingdom; the same disciple who would later deny three times of even knowing Jesus; the same disciple who would experience the healing that forgiveness brings.

Peter Is So Relatable To So Many: We have all done and said things we have “Regretted.” We have all felt the “Shame” of our “Mistakes.” We all have the tendencies to be “Hot-Headed” and maybe even rip an ear off. We All have a tendency to become prideful and arrogant in opposition to God.

Even Though Peter Had Issues —> His Issues No Longer Had Him. He addresses and connects with us today —> through righteousness and salvation. Who Is The Book Written To? —–> Those Who Have Received The Precious Faith. We have received the same measure of Faith —-> Faith Works So Work Faith. Comparison Trap —-> I don’t measure my faith by someone else’s. I measure my faith by what can be produced —> Substance, Hebrews 11:1 (NASB1995): “Now faith is the assurance of things ]hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” 2 Corinthians 10:12 (NIV): “We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.”

2 Peter 1:3 (NIV): “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” We have everything we need —> By His Divine Power. Divine —> Theios = God Like —> Supernatural. Dynamis —> Power —> Explosive Power. Zoe —–> The Absolute Fullness of Life.

2 Peter 1:4 (NIV): “Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

2 Peter 1:5-9 (NIV): “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9  But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.”

2 Peter 1:10-11 (NIV): “Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
